15 May 2026 - Arrived at Whitaker Place Camp Atterbury IN

We launched out of Terre Haute this morning in the rain and headed eastbound on I-70, unfortunately.  The road was terribly rough, full of potholes and in awful condition. It appears the repairs they have done made things worse rather than better.   I seriously expected a broken spring shackle at a minimum.  Folks, our infrastructure is in horrible condition.  I will say Indiana is in better shape than Illinois, but generally they all suck.  We need to hold our elected officials accountable on this stuff.  Te, only rrible..

It was a short travel day - 2 hrs 2 minutes and 112 miles.  Remember what I said about average travel time?  Yep.  50 miles/hour.  That is just how it always shakes out.  We rolled into Camp Atterbury at 1220 hrs.  Their process is to stop by the camp host site, get your laundry/latrine key and verify your site assignment, then proceed to your site.

AS we pulled in we noticed another Alliance coach right next door.  There was no truck there so we figured we would meet them after they returned later on.

We really like this campground.  Besides being on a military facility where things are secure, the sites are long pull-throughs and full hook-up.  They have gravel patios with fire rings and free firewood delivered right to your site.

We got all set up and after resolving a little water issue, we had a late lunch and then headed out on a walk.

This is an Army National Guard training base.  They cater to units that travel here to train.  They have massive barracks facilities, shooting ranges, chow halls, and all the other facilities to support deploying units.  Many units trained at facilities like Camp Atterbury before deploying to places like Iraq and Afghanistan,

During our walk we stopped by the USO as we had gone there before.  They provide essential services to Soldiers and Airmen  not only here but at airports and other places around the globe.

Next to the USO is a beautiful Chapel providing spiritual support to deploying troops.  These are historical facilities that have been here for years and years.

We passed the swimming pool and it was full of water but not yet open.  Back at the campground we relaxed around the campfire a bit before heading in for supper.

We met the Alliance folks (Ally's) next door, Jason and Kim Schueler from Colorado,  and made plans to get together tomorrow night when we all returned from our days journeys.  They are full time in their Alliance 385FL (front living room) originally from Colorado.

We are here for only three nights and have no specific plans here other than catching up on the laundry, getting some groceries and getting ready to head up to the Alliance Rally.
