12 May 2026 - Arrived at Stop #5 Terre Haute Campground

This morning we said goodbye to Scott Air Force Base FamCamp and headed northeast to Terre Haute IN.  The trip was only 174 miles during the 3:23 trip.  We made one potty stop but it was really uneventful.  Most of it was interstate except for some Route 4 miles that were two-lane.  Skies were clear and temps warm.   We waved goodbye to Illinois and welcomed the eastern time zone and some lower fuel prices.  The last stop in Illinois was just south of $7/gallon ($6.90).

I don't think I've ever been to Terre Haute before, hence the stop this year. I knew of Terre Haute and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology where all the Norwalk Soyer boys - Adam, Travis and Nathan, attended.  They were all in our baseball family along with dad Glenn Soyer who was also a Rose-Hulman alumni.  It was fun coaching Nathan and watching the boys grow and thrive on the field.

In our preparation for the trip, Terre Haute was a nice stop to break up the distance between Scott AFB IL and Camp Atterbury IN, our next stop. There did not seem to be a lot of choices for campgrounds nearby here but this one is OK.  A little tight, but we are only here for three nights.   The staff is very nice, utilities seem solid.

We got all settled and after a short break we headed out for a walk,  They have a really nice area for the kids with jumping pillow, giant chess/checkers, peddle go-kart track, putt-putt golf and other playground equipment.

Surrounding the kid's area are some livestock, assuming a petting area.  Donkeys and goats greeted us, begging for a treat.  We will have to stop at the store for some carrots and apples.

It's not a huge campground but it surely fills up on the weekends.  We continued our walk, near the pioneer town and the doggie park and back to the RV to watch the Cubs play the Braves tonight and to formulate a plan for the next couple days.

We are here for three nights which translated to two sight-seeing days.

Terre Haute area:  WE identified these sites to see, but except for the winery, the only one that is open during the week is the Holocaust Museum and only on Thursday, so that kind of shapes our week:
